Safety & Responsibility

How we work together to keep rentals safe and fair for everyone.

1. Our role

chubbycheeks is a peer-to-peer marketplace. We provide the platform, tools, and support that help parents and caregivers connect to rent baby and children's equipment from each other.

All items listed on chubbycheeks are owned and supplied by individual users — not by us.

Important: chubbycheeks does not inspect, test, certify, or approve items listed on the platform.

2. Item safety standards

All items listed on chubbycheeks must meet applicable UK safety standards for children's products.

Items must:

  • Be safe and in good working condition
  • Include all necessary parts and components
  • Not be subject to any product recalls
  • Not be broken, incomplete, or structurally damaged
  • Not be modified in any way that affects safety

Owners are responsible for checking their items before each rental and ensuring they remain safe to use.

3. Image-based condition checks

To support transparency and help resolve any questions about item condition, we may ask users to upload images at different stages of a rental — typically at collection and return.

How this works:

  • Images help document the item's condition at key moments
  • Automated tools may compare images to flag potential changes
  • Flagged cases may be reviewed by a person
  • This process supports fairness and transparency in any discussions

This system helps inform reviews and discussions. It does not replace your own responsibility to check items carefully at handover.

4. Prohibited items

The following items are not allowed on chubbycheeks:

  • Car seats and booster seats - Due to unknown crash history, expiration concerns, and critical installation requirements, car seats cannot be rented on our platform
  • Recalled products
  • Broken or incomplete equipment
  • Items missing safety components, labels, or instructions
  • Items that have been modified in ways that affect safety
  • Items not designed for use by children
  • Items that do not meet UK safety standards

If you see a listing that concerns you, please let us know at hello@chubbycheeks.co.

5. Who is responsible for what

Owners are responsible for:

  • The condition and safety of their items
  • Accurate and honest listings (descriptions, photos, pricing)
  • Checking items before each rental
  • Ensuring items meet UK safety standards
  • Providing any relevant instructions or guidance at handover

Renters are responsible for:

  • Checking items carefully at collection
  • Using items properly and for their intended purpose
  • Supervising children at all times during use
  • Returning items on time and in the agreed condition
  • Reporting any issues or damage promptly

chubbycheeks provides:

  • The platform and tools to connect users
  • Secure payment processing
  • Messaging and booking management
  • Image-based condition documentation
  • Support for disputes and questions

We do not supply, inspect, or take responsibility for the equipment itself.

6. Parental supervision

All baby and children's equipment must be used under appropriate adult supervision at all times.

Parents and caregivers are responsible for:

  • Checking that equipment is suitable for their child's age and size
  • Following any manufacturer instructions or guidelines
  • Supervising their children during use
  • Stopping use immediately if they have any safety concerns

chubbycheeks cannot be held responsible for accidents, injuries, or incidents arising from the use of rented equipment.

A shared responsibility

Keeping rentals safe is something we all do together. Owners, renters, and chubbycheeks each play a part.

By listing or renting items on our platform, you agree to the risk involved in lending your equipment and you agree to take your responsibilities seriously in renting — for your own benefit, and for the families who own or use these items.
