Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about renting and listing baby equipment on chubbycheeks.

Getting Started

1. What is chubbycheeks?

chubbycheeks is a UK-based peer-to-peer marketplace where parents and caregivers can rent baby and children's equipment from each other. We provide the platform and tools to connect people — the items themselves are owned and supplied by individual users, not by chubbycheeks.

2. Who can use chubbycheeks?

Anyone aged 18 or over who is based in the UK can create an account to rent or list items. You'll need to provide accurate information when registering and agree to our Terms and Conditions.

3. What kinds of items can I rent or list?

You can list most baby and children's equipment, including:

  • Prams and pushchairs
  • Travel cots and Moses baskets
  • High chairs and booster seats
  • Baby carriers and slings
  • Toys and activity equipment
  • Baby monitors
  • Bouncers and swings

Some items are not allowed — see our Safety & Responsibility page for details.

4. Do I need an account to rent or list items?

Yes. You'll need to create a free account to request rentals or list your own items. This helps us keep the platform safe and allows you to manage your bookings, messages, and payments in one place.

How Renting Works

5. How does renting work from start to finish?

Here's what a typical rental looks like:

  1. Browse items and find something you need
  2. Send a rental request to the owner
  3. Once accepted, pay for the rental and deposit
  4. Arrange collection with the owner
  5. Upload images of the item at pickup
  6. Use the item during your rental period
  7. Return the item on the agreed date
  8. Upload images at return
  9. Your deposit is released once the return is confirmed

6. How do I request a rental?

Find an item you'd like to rent, select your dates, and send a request to the owner. They'll review your request and can accept, decline, or message you with questions. You'll be notified when they respond.

7. How do I arrange collection and return?

Once a booking is confirmed, you and the owner can message each other through the platform to arrange collection and return times. This is agreed directly between you — chubbycheeks does not handle delivery or logistics.

8. What images do I need to upload, and why?

Both parties upload condition photos at different stages to document the item's state and protect everyone involved:

Example: Sarah (lender) rents her pram to Emma (renter)

  • 1.Pre-rental photos (taken by Emma, the renter): When Emma collects the pram from Sarah, Emma takes photos to document its condition at pickup.
  • 2.Post-rental photos (taken by Sarah, the lender): When Emma returns the pram, Sarah takes photos to document its condition upon return.

These images are compared to identify any changes. Clear, well-lit photos from multiple angles are most helpful. This process supports transparency and helps resolve any questions quickly.

9. What happens at the end of a rental?

Return the item to the owner as agreed. Both parties may upload images to confirm the item's condition. Once everything is confirmed, your deposit will be released. If there are any concerns, these are reviewed before the deposit is processed.

Pricing, Deposits & Payments

10. Why is a deposit required?

Deposits help protect item owners. They provide a safety net in case items are returned damaged, late, or not at all. The deposit amount is set by the owner and shown before you book.

11. Is the deposit a fee?

No. The deposit is not a fee — it's held temporarily during your rental and returned to you once the item is returned in the agreed condition. Think of it as a refundable hold, not a charge.

12. When is my deposit released?

Deposits are usually released after the item is returned on time and in the expected condition. The exact timing may vary — for example, if images need to be reviewed or if there's a query to resolve.

13. What happens if there's a problem with the return?

If the owner raises a concern — such as damage or a late return — the deposit may be held while the matter is reviewed. Both parties can provide evidence, and the outcome will depend on the information available.

14. Are there any platform fees?

chubbycheeks charges a small service fee on bookings to cover platform costs. This is shown clearly before you confirm a rental, so there are no surprises.

Damage, Loss & Disputes

15. What counts as normal wear-and-tear?

Normal wear-and-tear includes minor signs of use that happen naturally with baby equipment:

  • Light surface marks or scuffs
  • Minor fabric fading
  • Small creases in soft materials

These are expected with pre-loved items and would not typically affect a deposit.

16. What counts as damage?

Damage goes beyond normal use and may affect the item's function, safety, or appearance:

  • Broken parts or mechanisms
  • Tears, rips, or stains
  • Missing components or accessories
  • Structural damage

17. What if something breaks or is damaged during a rental?

If damage occurs, let the owner know as soon as possible. Be honest and provide photos if you can. The owner may submit a claim against your deposit. Claims are reviewed based on the evidence provided by both parties.

18. How are before-and-after images used?

Images uploaded at pickup and return help document the item's condition. If there's a question about damage, these images can be compared. Automated tools may flag potential changes, and flagged cases may be reviewed by a person. This process supports transparency but does not replace your own checks.

19. What happens if there is a disagreement?

We encourage renters and owners to communicate directly first. If you can't resolve things between yourselves, you can raise the issue with chubbycheeks. We'll review the available evidence — including images and messages — and aim to reach a fair outcome.

20. Does chubbycheeks decide disputes?

We help facilitate resolution and may make decisions based on the evidence provided. However, we cannot guarantee specific outcomes. Our goal is to support fairness and transparency, not to act as a judge or insurer.

Cancellations & Changes

21. Can I cancel a rental before it starts?

Yes, but cancellation terms depend on the owner's policy and how close you are to the start date. Check the listing for cancellation details before booking. Refunds are processed according to the applicable policy.

22. What if I need to cancel during a rental?

Contact the owner as soon as possible to arrange an early return. Refunds for unused days are not guaranteed and depend on the circumstances and the owner's policy.

23. What if the owner cancels?

If an owner cancels a confirmed booking, you'll receive a full refund including any deposit. We understand this is frustrating, and we encourage owners to only accept bookings they can honour.

24. What happens if an item is not as described?

If you collect an item and it doesn't match the listing — for example, it's a different model, missing parts, or in worse condition than shown — contact the owner immediately. If you can't resolve it, let us know and we'll help where we can.

Safety & Responsibility

25. Are items checked or inspected by chubbycheeks?

No. chubbycheeks is a marketplace — we provide the platform, but we do not inspect, test, or certify items. Owners are responsible for the condition and safety of their items. Renters should check items carefully at collection.

26. What safety standards must items meet?

All items listed on chubbycheeks must meet applicable UK safety standards. Items must not be recalled, broken, incomplete, or modified in ways that affect safety. Owners are responsible for ensuring their items are safe to use.

27. What items are not allowed?

The following are not permitted on chubbycheeks:

  • Recalled products
  • Broken or incomplete equipment
  • Items missing safety components or instructions
  • Items not designed for children
  • Anything that doesn't meet UK safety standards

28. Who is responsible for my child's safety?

You are. All equipment must be used under appropriate adult supervision. chubbycheeks provides a platform to connect users, but parents and caregivers remain responsible for their children's safety at all times.

29. What if an item is recalled?

If you become aware that an item has been recalled, stop using it immediately and contact the owner. Recalled items must not be listed or rented on chubbycheeks. You can check recalls on the UK Government's product recall website.

Accounts & Trust

30. How do I know who I'm renting from?

Every user has a profile showing their name, reviews from other users, and how long they've been on the platform. You can read reviews and message owners before booking to get a feel for who you're dealing with.

31. What should I do if I feel uncomfortable with a rental?

Trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right — whether it's the item, the owner, or the situation — you can cancel the booking or decline to proceed. Your safety and comfort come first. If you have concerns about another user, please let us know.

32. How can I contact chubbycheeks?

You can reach us by email at hello@chubbycheeks.co. We aim to respond within 1-2 working days.
